I Can Still Do That Foundation Launches First Mondays/DC
American Beauty Award to be Given to Kay Lautman,
Founding Board Member of America the Beautiful Fund
The I Can Still Do That Foundation announced today that it will be launching First Mondays, a live networking community of creative entrepreneurs, on Monday , May 3rd from 6-9 PM at The Thunder Grill, 40 Massachusettes Ave. (Union Station). The event is free with a cash bar and food available.
First Mondays is the primary live networking component of the I Can Still Do That Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to help put America back to work and create new business models and sustainable jobs through positive psychology, networking programs and intergenerational mentoring. The Foundation provides a free Directory where small businesses and individuals can post their profiles to facilitate live and virtual networking (see: www.firstmondays.com). There are also social networking groups on Facebook, LinkedIn and GottaMentor.
Dan Schneider, Executive Director of the Foundation announced that “We will be giving an “American Beauty” award to Kay Lautman, the longterm VP of www.america-the-beautiful.org and founder of Lautman and Associates. The American Beauty Award is given to a woman over 40 who best exemplifies the companied missions of our Foundation and the America The Beautiful Fund (ABF). The ABF is a 45 year old environmental organization whose mission is to help preserve the American environment and heritage. Kay, a founding Board member of the ABF, served as Vice President of the organization for over 25 years. Through her years of volunteer service to the ABF Kay Lautman truly exemplifies our combined missions. We are honored to acknowledge Kay’s many years of volunteer service to the ABF and other non-profit organizations through this award.”
First Mondays/DC kickoff event’s theme will be “Green Energy/ Green Jobs”. There will be 7 industry specific tables to facilitate targeted networking: Business , Legal & Finance; Non-profits; Technology; Health & Education; Arts & Entertainment; Green Energy/Green Jobs; and Women’s Networking. Discussions will center on how the community can grow in DC and elsewhere. The ABF will be distributing free seeds as part of its Operation Green Plant.
“Our law firm has been organizing FirstMondays events in NYC since October 2002 and they have been very successful. We have raised money for a variety of charitable causes, including victims of 9/11, many of whom who are still suffering in NYC, arts in entertainment programs for the public schools, scholarships for Inner City Children, and non-profits helping Africa”, according to Dan, an entertainment attorney and partner with Schneider, Pfahl & Rahme, LLP. “Last year the Foundation took over First Mondays, and with the exception of a benefit for the tragedy in Haiti in February 2010, we have been focused on helping American workers who have been displaced by the structural unemployment which has been inflicted on America during this Great Recession. America cannot help the world with its many problems until it has put its own workforce back to work and has harnassed the human capital and resources of our own nation. We cannot be a Beacon of Freedom without a sustainable “fuel” supply and healthy and educated labor supply. First Mondays is a diverse community of creative entrepreneurs, all of whom have the Attitude of Gratitude and feel the need to give back “, according to Dan. “We want to help turn the “ME” generation, into the “WE” generation. The right to the opportunity for a decent job at affordable wages is part of the American Heritage. We need to find a solution to the current jobless recovery”.
Volunteers and local partner organizations are welcome. Contact dan@firstmondays.com if you wish to volunteer or would like to become a co-sponsor. Please visit www.firstmondays.com , www.icanstildlothat.org, and www.america-the-beautiful.org for further information. ”
